Walgreens closes two distribution centers

As it continues to cut costs, Walgreens Boots Alliance will now close two distribution centers in Florida and Connecticut, laying off hundreds of workers in the process. The Deerfield, Ill.-based retail and pharmacy giant is closing a center in Orlando, Fla., and another in Dayville, Conn. Some 646 workers will lose their jobs as a result, Walgreens spokesperson Marty Maloney said in a statement. Aldi opens stores in Missouri and Ohio

German discount grocer Aldi continued its rapid pace of new store openings on Thursday, launching one new location in the St. Louis, Mo., suburb of Maryland Heights and another in the Dayton, Ohio, suburb of Vandalia. The Vandalia location is at 6415 Miller Lane, and the Maryland Heights store is at 12632 Dorsett Road. It’s Aldi’s second Ohio location to open in 2024. The chain opened a store in the Cleveland, Ohio, suburb of Elyria on Feb. 7. The grocer has also opened new stores in Florida, California, Arizona, and Illinois since the beginning of the year. Dollar General stays on track for success

Dollar General is betting it can capitalize on what it calls a “significant opportunity” to power through fiscal year 2024. The Goodlettsville, Tenn., retailer held its fourth quarter earnings call on Thursday with CEO Todd Vasos claiming solid progress was made on the company’s “Back to Basics” strategy, which was put into action when Vasos came out of retirement and returned as the company’s CEO last year.
